Martial arts promotes values such as: self-esteem, confidence, respect, and discipline. By practicing, studying, competing in, and teaching martial arts for over 20 years, it has increased organization, motivation, dedication, and responsibility as an individual.
By holding a 5th degree black belt and by training in Karate, Okinawa Kobudo, Phillipino Eskrima, Iiado, and Reiki has been fundamental in martial arts development. Having the opportunity to train in Okinawa, Japan in weaponry and compete in their First Traditional Karate-Do Kobudo World Tournament was an experience of a lifetime. As an active competitor of sport karate for 11 years, and the first woman to be rated in the top five athletes in the Wisconsin men's weapons division, martial arts is not a recreation, but a lifestyle. Most recently, returning from Portugal competing on Team USA, and winning two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, was another life boosting martial arts experience.
As the former manager and banquet coordinator of the Wisconsin Professional Karate Association, as well as the former president of the Oconto County Historical Society, upscale events and planning have always been a passion. Being the martial arts commissioner, for the Badger State Games held in Madison, WI, along with my husband has been a great way to stay involved in competitive martial arts. By having a blended family of six children and by owning and operating Harris' Karate Academy in Green Bay, WI, extra minutes are few and far between. Although, in free time, pursuing a degree at the local University, enjoying gardening, creating crafts, and traveling are all hobbies.
